Meet Coach Phil
I was introduced to chess at the age of eight when my dad taught me the game. While I was immediately fascinated, it wasn’t until the summer of 2015 that I truly embraced chess, joining a local club in Cape Coral, FL, and competing in tournaments across Florida.
A few years later, in January 2020, I placed third in the Master’s section of the 6th Annual Gulf Coast New Year’s Open in Fort Myers, FL—a milestone achievement that elevated my classical rating to 2050, officially earning me the title of Chess Expert. Since then, I have reached Candidate Master status, with a peak rating of 2089.
Today, I balance my time between competing and coaching, working with over a dozen students both online and in-person. I also collaborate with schools and senior living facilities across Greater Orlando, bringing chess education to players of all ages.
My Coaching Philosophy
My mission is to share the joy of chess and help students unlock their full potential. My coaching approach is both personal and structured, tailored to each student’s unique strengths and weaknesses. Through disciplined and creative thinking, I guide players toward mastery, ensuring no aspect of the game is overlooked.
From openings to middlegames, endgames, tactics, strategy, psychology, and time management, I provide a comprehensive chess education—perfect for students eager to improve their rating, sharpen their skills, and win more games.
